I had the immense pleasure of making a video trailer for an amazing book written by one of my most favorite people, Christina Rosalie. A Field Guide to Now (available on Amazon) is a beautifully written book about staying present and living to your upmost potential in the messy, uncertain landscape that is our life. Christina is a painter with both her words and her brush; all the illustrations were created by her to accompany the mirage of metaphors she conjures throughout the book.
The goal of the video was to capture the style and the feeling of being in the mess and the beauty of the present that this book so successfully portrays. We filmed an hour plus of interview footage with the intent of having interview behind B-roll with a few head shots but in the end decided that a scripted voiceover with mostly B-roll would be the best method of introducing the book. In truth, my lavalier turned out to be faulty so the audio was not up to par. Thus, the decision was in part driven by error, but don’t you love how the best solution often comes from failure recovery? I do. Interviews will happen, with a working mic, so stay tuned.
Head on over and watch the video on her website! And then come back and tell me what you think!
